James Luther “Luke” O’Kelley, 76, of Asheville, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at his residence.

Born in Buncombe County to the late James L., Sr. and Clara Galloway O’Kelley, he was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn O’Kelley Waycaster.

Surviving is his wife, Cheryl Roe O’Kelley, and sister-in-law, Angela Roe of Weaverville.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Beverly Hills Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Billy King officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery, Edneyville.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Humane Society of Asheville, 14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville, NC, 28806.

Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.

I had know the Galloways since I was a small child .Luthers aunt Otelia he would mow her grass for her and then mow our yard .Luther was a good man and would help anyone he could when my father was killed when on duty Luther was there bringing food and helping with what ever he could do to help my mother and me .He was one of the kindest people I had ever known.Luther will be missed as we all will miss his smiling face .RIP my friend we will all meet again one day .I am so sorry for your loss may God give you the strength you need to carry on .
