James O. Wells, 84, of Leicester, passed away Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Asheville V.A. Medical Center.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Commadore and Addie Israel Wells. He was retired from the U.S. Army where he served during WWII and was a member of Newfound Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Robison Wells who passed away in 1999, two sisters, Pearl Ingle and Bonnie Woody and brothers Walter, Zeb and Russell Wells.
Surviving are his son, Dr. Gary Wells and wife Anne of Seneca, SC; a daughter, Billie Ray Wells of Asheville; three sisters, Maude Sharpe and Mae Freeman of Leicester and Edna Detter of Sanford, NC and two grandchildren, Dr. Jimmy Wells and wife Elizabeth of Houston, TX and Vanessa Delarca of Asheville.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Ball officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newfound Baptist Church P.O. Box 6 Leicester, NC 28748 or Care Partner Adult Day Services, 68A Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
We always admired Mr. Wells’ faithfullness to the church and his positive attitude, even as his health began declining. It was an honor to know him. We will remember you in our prayers.

Mr.Wells will be missed very much,He was a kind man to all people.He made our lives at the V.A. Medical Center a good one,he made all of us laugh, colored beautiful pictures to give out to any one who would like to have one.Mr.Wells has a wonderful family who was always there for him.His granddaughter which he loved very much, came often to visit her wonderful grandfather,he would smile so big,and talk about her the rest of the day.’We miss you MR.Wells.’ Sorry For Your Loss.
