James Richard Henson

James Richard Henson, 80, of Morganton died Wednesday, August 11, 2004, in a Morganton hospital. Mr. Henson was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late George and Mattie Kerley Henson. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda K. Henson and a son Roy W. Henson. He was a retired concrete worker and a member of First Baptist Church in Asheville. Surviving are five daughters, Donnell Mahaffey of Asheville, Patricia Henson of Red Bluff, CA, Diane Harwood of Morganton, Linda Knighten of Kingsport, TN, and Ann Cassizzi of Asheville; two sons, Ricky Henson of Orangeburg, SC and Terry Henson of Kingsport, TN; two sisters Margaret Wright of Canton and Emma D. Laney of Candler; two brothers, Jasper Henson of Enka and Roy Lee Henson of Candler; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Swann officiating. Burial will be at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
