Janie Ruth Davis

Janie Ruth Lloyd Davis, loving mother and wife, 93, died on December 23, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. She is preceded in death by her husband, McRee Davis. Mrs. Davis was born Oct. 15, 1915 in Chapel Hill, NC and moved to Asheville after graduating from Mrs. Hard Barger's Secretary School in Raleigh. She worked for a number of years at the Veteran's Administration Hospital In Asheville and at the Asheville Fire Dept. until becoming a real estate broker in 1971. Along with her late husband, McRee Davis, she was a founding member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church on Tunnel Rd. where she maintained her membership until her death. She, in fact, was responsible for locating the property on which the church was begun and still resides today. Mrs. Davis loved to travel and visited many places including Mexico, Honduras, Australia, Philippines, Germany, Latvia, England, Israel, Canada and Holland. She is survived by her children, Roy Davis and his wife Jackie of Asheville, Van Davis and his wife Mary of Durham, Janis Wise of Fairfax, VA and Debra Casey and her husband Tim of Sterling, VA; a sister, Frances Shetley of Carrboro, NC and her loving grandchildren, Adam and Peter Wise and Katherine and Jana Davis. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Adam Wise officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Beverly Hills Baptist Church 777 Tunnel Rd. Asheville, NC 28805.
