John Fox, 86, of Asheville, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
Born in Yancey County to the late Wash and Ester Laughran Fox, he retired with the US Army after twenty-three years and was a member of Biltmore Church.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Sherman (T.H.) Fox.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Betty Jean P. Fox; son, John Darrell Fox (Debbie) of Asheville; grandchildren, Melissa Gillespie and Steve Turner, Jr.; great grandchildren, Tyler and Jena Turner and Alexandria Gillespie; brother, Clyde Fox (Brenda); sisters, Gladys McKinney (Eugene), Tennie English, Robbie Lee Ayers (Tom),Vaughtie Roberts, all of Green Mountain and Marjorie Hilemon of Bakersville, and several nephews and nieces.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 noon, in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Rev. Sam McLamb will officiate and burial will follow.
Memorials may be made to Biltmore Church, 38 Clayton Rd., Arden, NC, 28704.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.
We were so saddened to learn of your passing yesterday. You will certainly be missed Mr. Fox! You were truly a blessing to have for a neighbor. I will always remember your kindness, big heart and compassion for helping others. The Lord gained a wonderful angel yesterday! Jean and family, we are so very sorry for your loss. We are keeping you in our prayers today and in the days to follow.
