JEAN W. JOHNSON Jean Wilson McNeill Wainscott Johnson, 90, formerly of Asheville, died Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Hospice House in Mecklinburg County. Mrs. Johnson was born in Watauga County and was a daughter of the late Dayton and Pearl Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Wainscott, sisters, Ethel, Ruth and Ruby, and brother, Len. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Asheville, for 60 years where she was active for 51 years. She is survived by one son, Jim McNeil (Deanna) of Charlotte; step-daughter, Judy Worrell; grandchildren, Scott McNeill (Terri) and Barbara McNeill, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

  2. To Jean’s Family: We knew Jean and Claude in Asheville and were friends for many years. Nick and Claude worked with Southern Bell at the time. We loved them both and they were always so much fun to be around. Sorry that we did not know that she was in Charlotte.
    She has lived a long life and we are not far behind. We know that you will miss her and know that we share your sorrow.
