Jeane Beard Etter

Jeane Beard Etter, 90, of Asheville, passed away April 4, 2023 at the Givens Health Center following a short illness.

A native of East Freedom, PA, Jeane was the daughter of the late Lynford Baumont Beard and Carnegie Dehler Beard.

She is survived by her husband of more than 65 years, Dr. Robert Etter; two sons, Douglas Etter and his wife, Lois, of Olympia, WA, and Dr. Jeffrey Etter and his wife, Sue, of Boulder, CO; one daughter, Roberta Etter Smith and her husband, Tom, of Crystal Lake, IL, as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Phillip Beard of Pittsburgh, PA.

She grew up and was educated in the public schools of East Freedom and Altoona and earned a BS Degree in Home Economics from Pennsylvania State University. She was employed as the extension home economist for several counties in Eastern PA while her husband completed his education. Following that, she was a homemaker and an active community volunteer. She enjoyed travel and continued education. With her husband, she traveled and participated in many Elderhostel programs worldwide and enjoyed taking classes at UNCA in programs for seniors.

No memorial services are planned at this time and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jeane’s name to one’s favorite charity.
