‘Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.’

Our thoughts are with you and your family through this very tough time.

  97. Dear Conner Family, I am deeply saddened by Jeff’s passing. Jeff and I shared many exciting times during our high school years. We shared triumphs and losses as teammates, and then when my family moved to Fairview, we became sports rivals. I always admired Jeff and found it much easier to play on his team rather than to play against him. I remember reaching up to catch a long pass from him for a touchdown. I can also see his perfect shot sailing toward the basket. And I can hear him saying, ‘Way to go, Wayne’. May the Lord comfort and console you. Our prayers are with you. In Christ’s love, Wayne

  98. Sorry for your loss. I didn’t play for Coach, but I was in the football program at the high school during my freshman and sophomore years when he was the varsity coach (before I moved to Charlotte, N.C., to finish school). Knew him fairly well around the football field. God bless the family.

So sorry for your loss. Growing up in the Enka community and living across the pasture from the best high school player in WNC was a real blessing for me and my brothers. It was at your house where we all gathered to play basketball just hoping that Jeff would come out and play with us a little… and yes he sometimes did. Jeff was a wonderful son and a great role model to all of us that grew up watching him play. He will be greatly missed.

  115. Coach Conner gave the Erwin Class of 1982 such exciting memories. We are so grateful for our chance to have him as our Coach and mentor during those years. So many gather to mourn his passing, but also to celebrate how he enriched our lives and to say ‘thank you!’

God bless the family with comfort as they mourn the loss of Father, Son, and dear one. May you draw comfort in the years to come by your memories of the man you knew and his sense of humor and warming smile.

  116. To the Conner family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.
    Jacqui Perry
    Class of 1982

  117. I want to take this time and offer my deepest sympathy and sincere well wishes to you and the members of your family in this your time of loss. Coach has been a rock, a corner stone in our support system to so many young student athletes and members of the community. A person over a lifetime we have grown to depend on by remembering his words and his continuing unselfish service to others. Each one of us will mourn in our own way. To a greater extent, the Erwin Football Team and class of 82, we will mourn together. That was a magical journey that year and Coach will always be a part of the story. He was ‘our’ Coach and he pushed all of us to be better than what we were as individuals by becoming one in a team. Coach has been a vital part and a source of strength not just for us but for many and thru this time he has always been a loving husband and father. Although I will not be with you to celebrate his life, please accept my fondest memories of him and this note as a sign of the deepest respect all share for your loss.

  118. To the Conner family – Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Coach Conner will be forever remembered by the Erwin Class of 1982. He was such a strong influence on all of us. He helped many of us achieve things that we would have never thought possible and we will always carry a part of Coach with us. God Bless!

  119. Dear Connor Family ~ Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. You are blessed to have such great support and love from your family and friends.

  121. to the conner family, i only saw jeff once in a while over the years and he was always so kind. may God bless all of his family and loved ones.

  122. Wes, Clint & Conner family –
I’m praying for Gods mercy and grace to cover you in this very difficult time of loss. I was out of town and unable to attend the receiving of friends on Wednesday. I know its very difficult understanding why things happen the way they do, but i pray that the reassurance of your father knowing Christ comforts you during this time. Your father was a great man and I admired him greatly!

  123. To Clint, Wes and the Conner Family,

My thoughts and prayers will be with you during this time of loss. Coach Conner provided myself and countless others with inspiration, confidence and some of the fondest memories of our lives. He was a teacher, a coach and above all, a dear friend. You could always count on Coach to kick you in the behind when you needed it but to also lift you up when you needed that even more. He was a wonderful man who touched many, gave selflessly and will be missed greatly.

  124. To the Conner Family,

I have many fond memories of Coach Conner, from Erwin to playing softball with Trinity Methodist when he helped coach us. He was a wonderful man, who loved his boys. My prayers and thoughts have been with you since this whole thing started. May God comfort you all and bring you peace.

  125. I wanted to express my condolences to the Conner family for their loss. I along with everyone from Clyde A. Erwin class of 1982 will always remember ‘Coach’ as a wonderful, awesome, inspiring person that always had a smile on his face. And as others have said he was there for us when we needed a shoulder or a smile. He will be remembered forever!!!

  126. My greatest memory of Jeff is seeing a smile on his face everyday. I can not tell you how pleased he was with what a great family he had. When I asked him how the kids were doing he said ‘I love them more then life’ He always talked highly of his 4 kids. Jeff has brought so much to the town of Enka. As a student at Enka High School I and a lot of others thought he was the best subsitute because he would always joke around with us and if we were sad he would make sure to brighten our day. He will truly be missed as a sub and as a friend. Coach Conner was the best football coach that enka has seen in a very long time. Jeff will always live on in our hearts. In 20 years when asked what was my best high school memory it will be getting to know Jeff Conner. I will never forget him.
    RIP COACH CONNER

  127. I didn’t get to come to the memorial service cause I was at Justin Boone’s funeral.I am so sorry I missed it.I guess the sweetest memory I have is of Jeff being not only a coach to my son,Brandon

  128. My prayers are for all of you in the family… particularly Wes and Clint, who I remember best… your father’s sudden passing has to hurt. I am so sorry for your loss.

  129. I am so sorry for your loss and you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I remember how handsome Jeff was as a star athlete when I was at Enka (class of ’71) and what a totally gorgeous couple he and Barina were! God bless all of you!

  130. Jeff Conner Family:

There are many people who influence a person’s life; however, Coach Jeff Conner impacted no other life more than he has mine. Without our paths crossing in 1976 I wouldn’t be the person that I am today and I am thankful God brought Coach Conner into my life. One of the most perfect places to teach is on the basketball court and football field. This is where Coach Conner not only taught so many student-athletes about sport, but taught us life lessons.

He emphasized to play together as a team.
He taught others to be their best.
He possessed a passion and enthusiasm for sport.
He taught hard work and to give your very best. There is no substitute for hard work.
He was a competitor and was driven, but he was prepared and executed his game plan.
    He was grateful and thankful.
    He was loving and giving.
He made us feel good about ourselves.
He was a parent to many.
He was inquisitive and had a playful demeanor that was fun.
He had a great sense of humor and loved life.
He lived life with purpose and meaning.
He loved his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

It was a privilege and an honor to have played for Coach Conner. I’m so glad our paths crossed one last time at the Erwin HS Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in January. Reflect on the wonderful memories made with your son and father. My condolences and deepest sympathy to the Conner Family during this very difficult time.

  132. Conner family

Wishing you great comfort in this time of sorrow. Coach Conner was a great man. My mother, Carolyn, who passed in 94, worked with Jeff at Erwin and thought the world of him. I remember all the days we played golf. He was funny, down to earth, and very competitive. He always wanted to beat Scott, Tracy, and Travis (AC Reynolds) when we competed in the same match. He will be missed!
