Jerry was my dear, dear friend for almost forty years. When we were in college, she spent much energy trying to keep me out of trouble. He was a steadfast friend, who lived his Christian faith, impacting me profoundly. He was a true gift.
Edwin, we are praying for you and thanking God for the comfort he has promised during this time. Dale & Judy
Jerry and I have been brothers since 1957/8 when we attended the Himes School on Logan Ave., in West Asheville. We attended Hall Fletcher Junior High School and Westwood Baptist Church. We saw Billy Graham during a revival in the 60’s where God spoke to me and led me to be baptised. Over the years, we moved apart in miles but not our love as brothers. We stayed in touch no mater where we were and reached out to each other when we needed a pal. I will miss my brother and our phone calls and emails, but I know that one day we will be together again in God’s house where there is no sicknees, pain or suffering. Edwin and Edwina, you are family to me and I share in your grief and it pains me that I cannot be there with you. God Bless you and yours through this difficult time.
Elaine and I loved Jerry very much. He was in our wedding in 1973 and has been in our married life ever since then. We have been blessed to have had him as a friend and a brother. We will miss him but we will not forget him as we know he has gone before us to help prepare a place for us all to meet again. We love you Jerry.
Dear Mr. McDevitt and family,
When Mother saw the obituary in the paper today she asked if I would send a message for her. She wanted to convey her sincere sympathy at this very difficult time. She was 95 in June, still lives in her condo but has had help 24/7 since a fall in February. In August Hospice became involved in her care. Her mind is still sharp most of the time and she remembers the McDevitts with much fondness. May you find peace with the beautiful memories of Jerry.
Sincerely,
Becky McMinn Owens for

My deepest sympathy to Jerry’s family. Jerry became a good friend immediately upon meeting about two years ago when I moved to Greenville. We enjoyed coffee downtown, talking about the Lord, current events, and laughing about old TV shows. I will miss Jerry, but know I will see him again in heaven.
Dear Mr. McDevitt,
I am so sorry to hear about Jerry. I know this is a great loss to you, your family.
May God give you all comfort.

Jerry lived on Hubbard St. and I lived two blocks over on Kentucky Drive. We were school friends. Jerry was among the first to welcome me back home from my military service in Vietnam. I remember it well. May GOD welcome Jerry into HIS Eternal Kingdom. Peace and Love.
