Jerry Arnold Chism, 67, of Asheville, died Saturday, January 17, 2009, at the Brian Center.
A native of Dunn, NC, he was a son of the late Arnold and Lina Lee Barefoot Chism. He was also preceded in death by two children, Douglas Chism and Karen Chism Austin and a sister, Frances Carroll.
A US Navy veteran, Mr. Chism lived in Asheville for 40 years and was a long distance truck driver. A member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Black Mountain Moose Lodge, he was a musician who played guitar, steel guitar and sang and was an animal lover.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Steele Chism; daughter, Kathy Chism of Knoxville; son, Charles Chism and wife Shannah of Asheville; three grandchildren, Kirstie Collins, Aerial Austin and Kaeghan Austin.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Music City Pug Rescue, 31 Jonesboro Lane, Elmwood, TN 38560.
Dr. Chism please accept our condolences. We are so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. As we have known you for so many years now Landon said it best when he heard that your father has passed. She is more than our doctor, she is like our family.
