  8. I met Jesse through Marie, a fellow member of the Asheville Garden Club. Jesse attended many of our meetings and also assisted with the DOT awards ceremony sponsored by the Garden Club of North Carolina a few years ago.

I often saw them at McDonalds on Hendersonville Road having a light meal and enjoyed visiting with them there and in their home.

Marie, my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. I will miss him.

    Sincerely,

    Pam Benes

  11. Jess was a skilled, well-respected B-24 pilot who took care of the men on his crew. He was loved by all of the men who knew him in the 485th Bomb Group and he and Marie were faithful attendees at all the 485th reunions until his health started to fail. He was an inspiration to many of us from the next generation(s) He was a fine gentleman and he will sincerely be missed, but he left his mark on all of us and he will not be forgotten.

  12. Jesse and my Father, the late Francis Huntley, who died exactly 10 years before Jesse (November 5, 2005) were good friends, with my Father being in the school business at Reynolds High School. They were both Greatest Generation and both in WWII. My Dad was on Tinian working on B-29s the same time Jesse was in B-24s. Jesse did much for his fellow man in so many ways in Buncombe County and beyond. Once again, my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Ledbetter and the family..

  13. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jesse. May you be strengthened by the wonderful promise our Heavenly Father has made at Isaiah 26:19 and Revelation 21:3,4. Soon, all things causing pain including death will soon be eliminated on earth. Until then, may you be strengthened by God, family and friends to endure the days ahead.
