Asheville Butterfly TrailA native of Buncombe County, she was daughter of the late James W. and Dozie Hare Couch and wife of the late Robert Stye Whitaker who died in 1975. She retired from the American Enka Corporation with thirty-seven years of service and was a member of the South Asheville Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Emma Case of Weaverville, Mrs. Bonnie Barnwell of Fairview, Mrs. Addlee Sluder of La Mesa, Calif. and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher with the Revs. Mace Honeycutt and Donnie Marler officiating.
The family will be at the home of John and Dianna Couch, 45 Braddock Way, Asheville.

I only knew Jessie for a few short years, but I felt like I had know her for a long time. She was very precious to me and I will always feel blessed for knowing her. She was a great encourager to me, always making me laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
