Jim Summey, of Beechwood Road, Asheville, died on Friday, October 17, 2008, in a local hospital. He was born October 25, 1930, in Henderson County, and was the son of the late Major and Estelle Owenby Summey. He attended Lee Edwards High School and was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired with 44 years of service with Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries and in the later part of his career worked as production control manager. He is survived by a sister, Eva Viola Summey, of Asheville; a brother, Donald Lin Summey and wife Gwen, of Arden; niece, Leslie Lynn Summey, of Arden, and a nephew, Johnny Bacon and wife Frieda, of Fletcher. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road, with the Rev. Gayle Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

  1. Mr Summey was my boss at Sayles Bleachery and he was always funny and joking around. It was hard to get any work done around there. He had a great smile and laugh.
