John Cecil Thompson

John "Cecil" Thompson, 90, died Friday, December 30, 2016, at Aston Park Health Care Center. A native of Buncombe County, Cecil was a son of the late Lon R. and Shirley Rutherford Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jean Colleen Phillips Thompson; daughter, Linda Joyce Thompson; brothers, Fred Thompson and George Thompson, sister, Margaret Massie, and infant sister, Nellie Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a member and former choir director at Reeves Chapel United Methodist Church. He retired from American Enka following 44 years of service. Mr. Thompson is survived by his son, Mark Thompson and wife Mary; grandson, Zach Thompson; and sister, Nancy Waugh. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dottie Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow at Reeves Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
