John James Lundy, 87, of 249 Dix Creek Chapel Road, Asheville, died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at the VA Medical Center following an apparent heart attack. He was the son of the late William Joseph and Maria Dominica Gallasero Lundy. His wife of 58 years, Wylma Moore Lundy, preceded him in death in 1998 as well as a daughter, Patsy Ruth Lundy, two sisters and two brothers. Mr. Lundy was a true career military man having proudly served his country in the US Navy. He crossed the Atlantic 29 times during WWII and participated in five invasions as well as serving on the battleship Texas in the Pacific Theater. Following his retirement from the service he worked in Central Engineering at American Enka. He was a charter member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 361 and VFW Post 3040. He will be remembered as a good husband, father and family man. He taught his children integrity, the value of hard work and quietly helping others. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Dianne L. Williamson, with whom he made his home; a son, John Michael Lundy and his wife Linda of Swannanoa; a sister, Theresa Talford of Goshen, OH; grandchildren, Mark Williamson and his wife Tracy, Matthew Lundy and Candice Lundy; great-grandchildren, Haylee Williamson and her soon to be born brother Nickolas Lundy. Military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Reverend Father Frank J. Seabo officiating. The family will be at the home of Mark and Tracy Williamson, 46 Mt. Carmel Drive, Asheville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Lundy’s honor to Care Partners, Mountain Care Adult Day Care, 68 A Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
