John Robert Allman Asheville ~ John Robert Allman, 86, of Deerfield Retirement Community died Monday, October 1, 2007. Born in Angola, IN, he was a son of the late Heyman and Ethel Allman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dodie Allman, two daughters, Janet Kritzer and her husband, Stuart, of Denver, CO and Melanie Barton and her husband, David, of Arlington, VA; sisters, Martha Boggy, Ft Lauderdale, FL and Alice Boyd, Muncie, IN; a brother, William J. Allman, Indianapolis, IN and six grand-children. A graduate of Indiana Unversity, John was an active and loyal alumnus throughout his life. After 2 1/2 years in the Pacific as a Naval Lieutenant in WWII, he joined Genuine Parts Company's NAPA division, transferring to Indiana, Texas, Michigan and Tennessee, retiring as a Division President in 1983. An avid golfer, tennis player and sports enthusiast, he loved meeting new and old friends through business and world travel. His giving spirit inspired active participation in Civic organizations, and as a Vestry member of several Episcopal churches. He was devoted to his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, October 6, 2007, at St. Giles Chapel of Deerfield Retirement Community with the Reverend Morgan Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John’s memory to a charity of ones’ choice. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road is in charge of the arrangements.
