John Washington Maxwell

John Washington Maxwell, 93, of Arden, died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals. Mr. Maxwell was born in Elberton, GA, and was a son of the late Dock J. and Obelia Nelms Maxwell. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Maxwell. He served in the US Army during WW II and was retired after more than 30 years service with the Asheville VA Medical Center. He was a member of Cornerstone Church. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Margaret Lamb Maxwell; four daughters, Patricia Triplett and her husband, Bill, of Alexander, Pam Randall and her husband, Frank, of Alexander, Sharon Olsen and her husband, Bob, of Hickory, and Carol MacLean and her husband, Duart of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Duckworth officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team will be at Lewis Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
