In Loving Memory of Johnny Newton Hiers

Johnny Newton Hiers, beloved son of the late Grace Hiers, passed away peacefully September 23, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and hearts full of love. For the past sixteen years, Johnny was part of a loving family with Sara and Danny Swann, who opened their hearts and home to him. Together, they traveled the world, exploring many countries and creating beautiful memories through their countless adventures.

Johnny’s presence will be deeply missed by his housemates and dear friends from the LINCS Day Program in Swannanoa, NC. His infectious smile could brighten any room, and his joy for life touched everyone he met. Johnny had a passion for fishing, biking, and spending time with friends, and he had a special fondness for Elvis, whose music he adored. Halloween was his favorite time of year, and he loved celebrating the season via one of his many costumes.

A member of Crossroads Church in Asheville, NC, Johnny had a close and meaningful friendship with Pastor Bob Chuprevich, who provided him with spiritual guidance and unwavering support. His faith and love for life were truly inspiring to those around him.

Johnny’s kindness, sense of adventure, and zest for life will forever be remembered. He leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories in the hearts of all who knew him.

Guestbook

  1. Oh, I know that beautiful smile well! Johnny was a very special man who loved God and others with his whole being. And we loved him. Heaven has accepted one of the Fathers best gifts, Johnny was a gift to us all, Our prayers go out to the Swanns who loved and cared for him passionately and any family Johnny may have we are praying for you too. Pastor J Michael Brown & Debbie

  2. Sara and Danny my heart is broken as I am sure yours is. You both were a blessing to Johnny and the Lord has a special place for you. I know that the minute Johnny got to Heaven the Lord had a baseball jersey, hat, bat and glove for Johnny and he was able to run the bases at full speed, swing like Babe Ruth, field like Brooks Robinson and run the bases like Lou Brock.

Seeing Johnny on the Crossroads ballfield and the smile and joy in his heart will always be etched in my mind. I can only hope I did what was right.
I loved Johnny and couldn’t wait to see him on Sunday’s and wonder if he would have on his jersey and be carrying his glove. I knew without a doubt he would have on his smile.

He didn’t care if we won the game. He won everyday by being there. I trust everyone else won by having Johnny there beside him and he enriched our lives.

He was blessed to have a friend and role model like Pastor Bob.

Words can’t express how I feel and the sorrow in my heart. Tears roll as I try to write this. My prayers go out to you, Danny and all the other special folks like Johnny you touch.

  3. I watched the beautiful procession the other day and was deeply touched. I am so sorry for your loss. Thinking and praying for you all! Phillip and Wendy Mullis

  4. Johnny was certainly one of God’s angels on earth if that were possible. Always smiling and caring. As Bob said Johnny always hit home runs, in life as well. I love the picture Sara you put with him at a dining table on board the ship. Such a gentleman with a smile worth a million. That smile was expressive of that pure heart and soul. God blessed us all by placing Johnny in our worlds. Sara and Danny truly you are an Amazing Loving couple that God shines through and uses to love and care for those this world walks past without regard. I and so many others admire you both so much❤️ If we could see him now….we love you Sara and Danny!

  5. When I’d get to Lincs to find out my assignment for the midday I was always happiest when I’d get to work with you as you had a special way of spreading joy …I’ll always miss you .. our father has called you home … I’ll see you again Johnny❣️
