Joseph Richard “Papa” Moffat, 64, of 182 Old Farm School Road, Asheville, died Sunday, December 12, 2004 at his residence.
A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Moffat was a son of the late Joel Kirby and Margaret Spain Moffat. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Moffat Vess. He was a trustee of Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Laney Moffat and his granddaughter Emily of the home; two sons, Joel Moffat of Mars Hill and Richie Moffat of Asheville; two daughters, Tambra Luppino of Horse Shoe and Kim Campbell of Asheville;three sisters, Barbara Costello and Betty Huntsinger of Asheville and Frances Hess of Cullowhee and ten grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Danny Gasperson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00-8:30pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund 283 Shelburne Road Asheville, NC 28806.
