Born in: Haywood County, North Carolina
Resided in: Candler, North Carolina

Joyce Trull Dills, 79, of Candler went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 13, 2026. Joyce passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born and raised in the Little East Fork Community of Haywood County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Pauline Grooms Trull. In addition to Pauline, she was preceded in death by her husband, Furman Isaiah Dills. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Doyle, Don, and Mack Trull and a sister, Jean Cagle.

Joyce often reminisced about her early days growing up in the Little East Fork Community. She loved her mother, Pauline, and often talked about how she would move mountains to take care of her family. In addition, she would tell many great stories about her grandmother, a true “mountain woman,” Victoria Scott Grooms. Joyce also had loving brothers and sisters that took care of her and, in return, she looked out for them. Joyce had fond memories of being in the outdoors with her siblings, visiting with other family members in the community, and attending church.

As a young lady, Joyce met and married the love of her life, Furman Isaiah Dills. They were married for 62 years and had one daughter, Kim. The family made their home in Buncombe County. Joyce held several jobs in the community, including a stint at a parachute manufacturer in Woodfin, but the greatest role she ever served was being a pastor’s wife. Furman received the call to preach early in their marriage and Joyce became instantly faithful to the call of a pastor’s wife. She served in that role for close to 50 years supporting her husband and caring for the members of the churches they served all over Buncombe and Haywood counties. Serving in this role, she was known as one of the greatest prayer warriors anyone could have. She would pray for any problem and prayed diligently until God answered.

Joyce is survived by one daughter, Kim. Joyce is also survived by her grandchildren Matt (Sarah), Seth (Savannah), and a very special great-granddaughter that Joyce loved very much, Emma. In addition, Joyce is survived by a brother, Larry (Becky), and a sister, Evelyn.

Joyce loved spending time with family. She was a wonderful cook who thoroughly enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends at any time. Joyce helped to feed many pastors, musicians, and friends from all around the world. She was also faithful to pray for her daughter and grandchildren every single day. Joyce also enjoyed many days wading the local trout streams with her husband. She was a great angler that could out-fish everyone in the family. Joyce also deeply loved all of her work family at Ingles.

A funeral service will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, February 18th, at Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church in Candler, NC, with Jacob Warren officiating. The family will receive friends from 3pm to 4pm at the church. Burial will follow at the cemetery of Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church with Ben Crowe conducting the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Matt Dills, Seth Rhinehart, Jeff Rhinehart, Larry Trull, Lynn Cagle, and Lane Cagle.

The family would like to thank AdventHealth in Hendersonville and all of the other caregivers who assisted Joyce and the family.

Joyce loved flowers and working in her garden. Flowers would be welcomed and appreciated.
