JUANITA L. AIKEN
Juanita Mae Long Aiken, 85, of 68 Phoenix Cove Road, Weaverville, went home to be with our Lord Sunday, May 6, 2007.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was born December 14, 1921, to the now late Charles Reagan and Wavie Bell Hill Long. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Juanita attended Black Mountain Presbyterian Church. She worked at Fain’s Department Store until her retirement. She loved her volunteer work for the West Asheville Police Center, the Land-of-Sky Regional Council, and River Link until health no longer permitted her to do so.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara A. and Larry E. Hardin; two granddaughters and their families, Leigh Ann and Chris Scarbrough, their son, Samuel; Lora and Dan Goodwin, and their children, Christian and Sara. She is also survived by three nephews and their families.
Family visitation will be from 11:00 – 12:00 noon Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, with a graveside service following at Green Hills Cemetery on Leicester Highway. The Rev. Johnny Byrd will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Juanita’s honor to the Presbyterian Children’s Home, 80 Lake Eden Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711, for their Second Century of Caring Program. She grew up there and held many cherished memories of the Christian environment provided to her.
