Junius Lee “Pap” Sales, Sr., 91, of 24 Sales Farm Drive, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 15, 2005. Mr. Sales was a native and life-long resident of Buncombe County. He was a well known farmer of the Reynolds Community. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Oakley United Methodist Church and a member of the greater Reynolds Lions Club. He was a son of the late Ervin June and Minnie Wallen Sales and was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Annie Hughes Sales. In addition to his farming, he and Mrs. Sales enjoyed traveling together and had visited 49 states, Mexico and most of the provinces of Canada. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Junius Lee “Bud” and Aretha Sales; his daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and J.D. Whisnant; four grandchildren, Vicki Hickcox and her husband Jeff of Atlanta, GA, Keila Briggs and her husband Blaine, Richard Sales and his wife Shelly, and Michael Edwards and his wife Kerrie; two step-grandchildren, Dana Hoots and her husband Tony and James Whisnant of Chapel Hill; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany and Lauren Hickcox, Annlei and Ivy Briggs, Nathan and Laurel Sales and Logan and Lindsey Edwards; and one step-great-grandson, Nathan Whisnant. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, at Oakley United Methodist Church with the Revs. Donald A. Newman and Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will be in Gashes Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be firefighters from the Reynolds VFD. His family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. The family express sincere appreciation for the dedicated care and assistance provided by the Reynolds VFD, VHP, and Mountain Area Hospice. Memorials may be made to Oakley United Methodist Church, 607 Fairview Road, Asheville, NC 28803, or to the J.L. and Annie Sales Scholarship Fund (for deserving students at A.C. Reynolds High School), in care of the Greater Reynolds Lions Club, 393 Newfound Road, Leicester, NC 28748.
