JV Baker

JV Baker, 87, formerly of Asheville, died Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast (CMC) of Atrium Health. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Alex and Dollie Darnell Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Baker; three sisters, Reva Gosnell, Belle Drake and Nelle Ledford; and six brothers, George, Parlie, JC, Lloyd, Perry and Eugene Baker. JV was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and piano. His greatest passion however was his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by three sons, Jeffrey V. Baker and his wife, Pamela, of Cornelius, NC, Barry L. Baker and his wife, Alison, of Charlotte, NC and Christopher A. Baker and his wife, Laura, of Concord, NC; one brother, Alex Baker, of Fairview; four grandchildren, Lane, Celeste, T.J. and Caleb Baker; and his beloved dog, Zoe. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Willard Pruitt and Reverend Christopher Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
