Southfield, MI

Kaitlin Patricia Weiss Moss, 40, peacefully passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.
Kaitie was born on St. Patrick’s Day, 1981 in Southfield, Michigan to Peter Emory Weiss and Joanne Patricia McGrath.
To know Kaitie was to love her. She was the brightest light in the room. Her smile you would never soon forget. Her blue eyes sparkled with wonder and radiant love. She was someone who made you feel like you’d known her for years. Words could never describe the beauty of her soul and the love she gave to all those around her. Her passion for life was like no one you had ever known. She truly lived every single moment of her beautiful life to the fullest. She was a beloved wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and cousin to many.
Kaitie attended Our Lady of Sorrows Grade School in Farmington, MI and Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, MI. She participated in many team sports throughout her schooling, including equestrian training and competition. She received a scholarship to play Soccer at Sienna Heights University (Adrian, MI), where she played for two years. Kaitie earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University, and an Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology from Wayne State University. Working with and caring for animals (primarily horses), was always her passion and goal.
Since a little girl, she loved her horses. To her, they were her Heaven on Earth. Her escape. Her absolute passion. Kaitie went on to make a career out of this passion as an Equine Veterinary Technician. Working at Asheville Equine soon after moving to North Carolina and later at Hazelton Place Farm in Fairview caring for 12 horses on the farm property. She was her happiest in the saddle on her beloved bay mare, Belle, or running through the pasture with her baby dogs Winston and Redford.
She had many other passions, and on the top of that list were her niece and nephew, Brianna and Kingston. Nothing made her heart as full as watching them at their soccer games and other sports. If Kaitie was at the game, you definitely knew it. She was the loudest supporter there. To say she was proud of these kids is a tremendous understatement.
Another soul dear to her heart was her stepson, Liam. When together they were inseparable. Always laughing, singing music together & playing with the dogs on the farm. She loved Liam 120% as her own. She was such a natural mother figure to him. Guiding him in life with love and wisdom. Nothing was as sweet to Travis’ ears like the sound of those two laughing from another room. It was truly the most comforting sound he could possibly hear.
She was an incredible friend to all those who were lucky enough to have her in their lives. Her love and compassion reached far and wide to the darkest corners of this planet. You learned this in the first 5 minutes of meeting her. If you were a friend of Kaitie, you considered yourself lucky, blessed and grateful.
In addition to her loving parents, she is survived by her husband, Travis Dean Moss and a son Liam Travis Moss; her brother Matthew Peter Weiss, his wife Ebony and her niece and nephew Brianna and Kingston Weiss; her mother-in-law Emily Reynolds, her sister-in-law Christy West and husband Dale West of Leicester.
A celebration of Kaitie’s life will be held at a later date.

For Kaitie with the beautiful Iris eyes….
An Irish heart is silent now,
Life’s journey had to end,
God needed you for reasons,
We cannot comprehend,
Until the day we meet again,
On this we can depend,
Your Irish eyes are smiling,
Just around the bend.

Kaitie, your smile, light, kindness, love and friendship will forever be cherished and kept in our hearts. Sending hugs up to heaven everyday until we meet again. Our deepest, most heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Kaitie,
You are so missed, and so loved.
& it’s wildly appropriate you were born on St. Patrick’s Day because everyone you met was lucky to have known you.
I’ll think of you every time one of my girls shouts, “Look mom a horse!” excitedly out of the window, every St. Patrick’s Day, and so many other times between. Like when my couples say their vows and get to the, “in sickness and in health,” – because I’ve never met another couple who meant that like you and Travis did.
💚
Dear Pete and Joanne,
It’s been years since we’ve seen each other, but believe me, your family is in my prayers!
I did not have the pleasure of knowing Kaitland; but she sounds like a “beautiful soul” that is now stands beholding her Savior. My heart breaks while reading this obituary; but I’ve known Travis since he was a little boy, and I know from what he wrote, that he Loved Kaitland with all his heart. FAMILY, I am so sorry, and I will pray for GOD to comfort you as only he can. Love You Travis, Emily and Christy … with all my heart.
Oh Cousin Katie, it was just a month or so ago that you told me about your interest in staying at the place “Up North”! I didn’t know that the end was so soon! May your memory be a blessing!
My deepest and most sincere condolences for her family and friends. May God bless and protect you in the coming days weeks and years. May you find peace and comfort knowing she is pain free and now in a beautiful place.
Dear Pete and Joanne

So I’ve told this story to many friends over the years, so I wanted to share it here. It’s a story about my cousin, and it’s really difficult to believe. Sometimes I have a difficult time believing it. So my cousin picked up and moved her life to Asheville several years ago. She always grew up around horses in Michigan and wanted to be a horse tech. She found a job in Asheville as a travelling tech with a great person. They’d travel around working on different farms, meeting different people and doing what she always wanted to do, work outside and with horses. One day she went to a beautiful farm with hundreds of acres and dozens of horses to work. She did such a great job that a few days later the owner of this farm contacted my cousin and offered her a job. She asked my cousin to come and live on the farm and take care of the horses. Some ask, huh? Well my cousin didn’t feel quite right doing this, knowing she already had a job doing what she wanted to do as a travelling vet tech, so respectfully declined. The owner of the farm called a few more times and kept the conversation going, and my cousin kept saying no. The farm owner eventually reached out to the owner of the horse tech company and told them they wanted my cousin to come and work on the farm. The owner of the horse tech company called my cousin and said “what are you, crazy??? go and take the job”. So my cousin went and moved onto the most beautiful farms in Asheville, took care of all of the horses, and lived in an amazing house on the property. She did what she always wanted to do. Years later, she met an incredible guy, Travis. Travis has an amazing son and my cousin fit right in with all of them, love surrounded them. In May 2021, I attended the most beautiful wedding with the most beautiful bride in Asheville, and they lived happily ever after. That’s how I will always remember this story, about living your life to the fullest and following your dreams. Follow your dreams.
