Kate Evans McKinney, 89, formerly of Asheville, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, in Brunswick, GA. Mrs. McKinney was born in Maggie Valley and was a daughter of the late Charles Robert and Eliza Setzer Evans. She was married to David Leon McKinney who died in 2000. She was a retired seamstress and formerly attended Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Gayle Gray of Brunswick and two sisters, Maggie Waldroop and Juanita Gibbs. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Rev. Enoch Ball, jr. officiating. Her family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

  1. Gayle, we are so sorry to learn of Aunt Kate’s sickness and death. We have so many fond memories of Uncle Leon and Aunt Kate. We enjoyed our visits with them when we lived in Florida. They were like Grandparents to Dianne and Lynn.
