Kathleen Cole Duckett, 94, of 837 Monte Vista Road, Candler, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in the Hospice Solace Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Duckett was born in Leicester and was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late George F. and Lillie Ramsey Cole. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elbert C. Duckett in 1979, and by four brothers and four sisters.
She received her teaching degree from the Asheville Normal College and her first teaching job at the age of 19 was in a one-room school in the Broad River section of Buncombe County. She taught elementary school for 38 years in the Buncombe County School System.
She was an active member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a former Red Cross volunteer.
She is survived by a brother, Morris L. Cole of Leicester; two step-daughters, Joan Westall of Arden and Elaine Broyles of Deltona, FL; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and ten nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thornton Hawkins officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Garry Cole, Rex Cole, Leslie Cole, James Westall, Jr., Derek Broyles and T.M. “Frostie” Fincher.
Her family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and request that memorials be made to Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 67, Candler, NC 28715, or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
