Laura Hardin (Aycock) Askew died Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville.

She was born to Mell and Elizabeth L. Aycock on October 27, 1926 in Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William “Smokey” Arnold Askew.

She is survived by her children: daughters Anne A. Burns and Elizabeth L. Askew; sons W. Arnold Askew (Mary) and Stephen H. Askew (Patricia); grandchildren Elizabeth A. Davis, William J. Davis (Alma), Caroline B. Hopenwasser (Lance), Sarah A. Brehm (Steve), and David B. Askew (Tonya); and great-grandchildren Sophia C. Brehm, Cecilia A. Brehm, Jaxon A. Askew, Liam H. Askew, and Laura M. Davis-Chaney.

Graveside services will be held September 16, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cashiers, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
