Lawrence Richard Schwartz, of Seneca, SC, died December 3, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was born June 29, 1930 in New York City, the son of Carl and Evelyn Schwartz. He served in the Marine Corps. in Korea and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Schwartz was a ceramics enginer and worked for many years at American Lava, later 3M, in Chattanooga, TN, where he raised his family. He was well-known throughout the South as an AKC obedience judge. In 1985, he moved to San Diego, CA where he worked at Alcoa, retiring in 1995 and moving to Seneca. He continued training his dogs and showing them in obedience trials, winning many championships. Mr. Schwartz was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Deborah, and his son, John. He is survived by his two daughters, Carla Miller of Madison, AL, and Mimi Carles of Huntington Beach, CA; two granddaughters, Katie and Lissa Miller of AL; three grandsons, Michael, Gabriel and Dylan of CA; daughter-in-law, Tracy Schwartz of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Diane (Daryl) Hawkins of Enka, NC; stepson Brian (Darlene) Carver; and step-grandchildren, Cody, Emily, and Kylie Carver, all of Asheville, NC. The family would like to thank all the medical staff of the Greenville Medical System, and especially Tracy LaSalle of Interim Health Care, Greenville, for her above and beyond service. Graveside services for Mr. Schwartz will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, at Green Hills Cemetery. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
