Leo Judah Spencer

Leo was born January 14, 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia to Ann Ruff and Leo J. Spencer. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During World War II, Leo served in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

In 1954, Leo moved to Asheville where he enjoyed a long career with the architectural firm Six Associates, Inc. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Friendship Force of Western North Carolina.

Leo is survived by his wife of 49 years, Irene Miller Spencer; a daughter, Laurie Spencer Diaz, both of Asheville; a son, Leo James Spencer of St. Petersburg, FL; and a granddaughter, Daniela Amelia Diaz.

The family will receive visitors at their home on Saturday, December 15 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 16 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Dr. Rob Blackburn and Reverend Carol Ploch officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to one of Leo's favorite Christmastime charities: Santa Pal, PO Box 1912, Asheville, NC 28802.
