Asheville Butterfly TrailLeon Kenneth Lance (known to many as “Pa”), age 80, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 14, 2022.
Leon was born on July 21,1942 to Paul and Pauline (Bailey). He graduated from Valley Springs High School and retired from CSX Railroad in 2002 after 40 years of dedicated service as a dispatcher. He was an inductee of the Effingham County Recreation Hall of Fame. Leon loved to work in his yard and his flowerbeds and landscapes were always immaculate. Leon enjoyed a good golf game and spending time on the course with friends and family. He and Jane loved to travel and spend time in their Tennessee home.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Pauline Lance, his brother Larry Lance and a great grandson Claxton Tate Lance.
Surviving are his best friend and love of his life of 60 years, Jane Franklin Lance; one daughter, Mitzi Hall (Henry) of Guyton, GA; one son, Michael Lance (Cheri) of Brooklet, GA; grandchildren, Jeremy (Amanda) Sessions, Nicole (Mitch) Pare, Zack (Melissa) Lowe Dalton (Morgan) Lance, Daniel (Kelsey) Lance, Emilly (David) King, Corey (Amanda) Hall; great grandchildren, Mylee, Maddie, Lance, Ashton, Waylon, Lily, Travers, Michael, Ace, Carter, McKinley, Thea Tate, McKenna, Delaney, Bailey, Abby, Jacob and the anticipated arrival of his nineteenth great grandchild, Maizie James. Leon is also survived by his adopted son Tim Anderson and an adopted sister Ruthel Cairnes, as well as several nieces, nephews and an amount of friends that is immeasurable.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 19 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. His family will greet friends at the church on Friday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Sessions, Zackary Lowe, Dalton Lance, Daniel Lance, Mark Miller, Trevor Miller, Joel Stone, and Lee Whitley.
Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.

Leon Enjoyed all our good times growing up together. playing golf and hanging out around Mtn View, We are so sad that Leon is gone. Jane and family you are in our prayers.
Do very sorry to hear of Leon’s passing. He and Jane were great neighbors in Westwood. Grateful that I ran into both he and Jane in Rincon earlier this summer. Hugs and prayers to the family.
