Leona Catherine Schultze Chapman, 71, of 2 Bevlyn Drive, Oak Forest, Asheville, died Sunday, September 6, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Charleston, SC, and was
a daughter of the late Charles Fredrick and Ethel
Mildred Reid Schultze. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Schultze and Charles Schultze and a sister, Jenny Priester. She was a graduate of the School of Nursing of the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, and was a retired Director of Nursing at the Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and was a charter member and long-time Sunday School Teacher at the Lutheran Church of the Nativity in Arden. She also served as past-president and recorder of the Stevens Group of the United Methodist Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
She is survived by her husband, James Mood
Chapman; three sons, James M. Chapman, Jr., Ph.D. of Columbia, SC, Steven F. Chapman, M.D. of Rock Hill, SC and Richard C. Chapman of Glen Allen, VA,; four grandchildren, Lindsay and Shelby Chapman of Glen Allen, and Melissa Chapman and Brandon Mooring of Rock Hill, SC; and a sister, Mary Ricker of Charleston.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. David L. Martin officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard, Fletcher.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home and request that memorials be made to the Chapman Eldercare Fund, c/o St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 10 North Liberty Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
