Linda Hoff Summey, 72, passed away Monday, April 6, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Summey was born in Moline, IL, to the late Lawrence Lee Hoff and Bette Charlotte Hoff. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas and spent her career as an educator, primarily at French Broad Elementary School, Alexander. Although Linda retired from teaching to raise her children, her love of education did not retire. She served on the Buncombe County Board of Education and spent many years as a substitute teacher at Erwin Middle School.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Mike Summey; two sons, Jason Lee Summey and Matthew Lawrence Summey and wife Kristina; one step son, Steven Michael Summey II; five grandchildren, Jackson Lee Summey, Jacqueline Grace Summey, Grayson Dean Summey, Kinsley Layne Summey and Leighton Claire Summey; and one sister, Jane Thompson.

Due to the current virus restrictions, no services are planned at this time; however, a celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

  6. Chip and I are heartbroken about Linda. She was a dear friend that was dedicated and loved her family dearly. Linda was beautiful both inside and out with a contagious smile. We have so many fun memories as we raised our boys together. My kids loved her too. She was a role model for all.

    Her passion for kids was so evident in everything she did in her life. Our entire county was so lucky to Linda serve on the Buncombe County Board of Education. She always had students as the focus for any decision she had to make.

    We loved and will miss her forever! Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike, Jason, Matt and their families 🙏❤️
