Linda Sappington Nelson, 76, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at Mission Hospital.

An Asheville native, Linda was a daughter of the late Charles and Waynette Miller Sappington. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Merrill Gene Nelson.

Mrs. Nelson worked for many years as a nurse at Asheville Family Health Centers. She was a member of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church.

“What you do in life chooses you. You can choose not to do it, you can choose to do something safer. Your vocation chooses you.” That certainly couldn’t have been more true when it came to our mother. Our Mom was a nurse (LPN) with a 50+ year career. She was known for her kindness, her generosity, she was a true advocate and conduit of her patients as well as her family and friends. Nothing made her happier than caring for people. She lived, breathed and loved the nurse life. She will be remembered and missed by all she helped through the years.

She is survived by her daughter, Allison Kathleen Brown and her husband, Mike Rangel; son, Charles Jonathon Wayne Wilson; grandson, Evan Thomas Gates; and cousin, LaMont DeBruhl.

A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held at a later date.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  12. You taught me everything
    Everything you’ve given me
    I’ll always keep it inside
You’re the driving force in my life, yeah
    There isn’t anything
Or anyone that I could be
And it just wouldn’t feel right
If I didn’t have you by my side
You were there for me to love and care for me
    When skies were gray
    Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me
And no one else can be
What you have been to me you will always be
You will always be the girl
In my life for all times
Mama, Mama you know I love you
    (You know I love you)
Mama, Mama you’re the queen of my heart
Your love is like tears from the stars, yes it is
Mama I just want you to know lovin’ you is like food to my soul
Yes it is, yes it is, oh, yes it is, yes it is, yes it is oh
    You’re always there for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
You showed me right from my wrong
    Yes you did
And you took up for me
    When everyone was downin’ me
    You always did understand
You gave me strength to go on
    There were so many times
Looking back when I was so afraid
And then you’d come to me and say to me
    I can face anything
And no one else can do
What you have done for me
You’ll always be, you will always be
The girl in my life, ooh oh
Mama, Mama you know I love you
(You know I love you, you know I love you)
Mama, Mama you’re the queen of my heart, (You are)
Your love is like tears from the stars
(Your love is like tears from the stars)
Mama I just want you to know (Mama I just want you to know)
Lovin’ you is like food to my soul
Never gonna go a day without you
Fills me up just thinkin’ about you
I’ll never go a day without my mama
Mama, Mama you know I love you
Mama, Mama you’re the queen of my heart
Your love is like tears from the stars
(Your love is like tears from the stars)

  17. It was an honor to care for your mother at Pisgah Manor. She was a very kind and loving person. She always was smiling and told me she knew when I was there she was gonna be taken care of and she trusted me. When I learned of her passing it broke my heart. I will always remember her! 18. Allison & Charlie-
I just learned today of your Mother’s passing. Your Mother was such a special person to me. We first crossed paths when I was doing my clinicals prior to graduating college in 1990. Your Mom was always patient, willing to teach me things, always smiling. Fast forward to 2009 I was hired to work for Family Health Center. I was excited to see your Mom again. She was as friendly as ever. I often referred to your Mom as “Mamacita.” I loved our talks- listening to her brag about Evan. She was always such a loving, kind, and supportive friend. I’m so sorry for her passing, and pray you find peace & comfort.

  19. You will be greatly missed sweet Linda! I have known you since you were in grade school and we shared so many fun times over the years. I will see you on the flip side soon Honey, and we can hug and laugh together forever! ❤️❤️
