Asheville ~ Lois Ann Piepho White, 82, of Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community died June 3, 2008. Lois Ann was born Feb. 27, 1926 in Muncie, Ind. to the late Clarence G. Piepho and Lois A. Wilson Piepho. She attended Western College for Women, Oxford, Ohio and graduated with a Masters in Medical Social Work from Indiana University in 1950. She was awarded a Phi Beta Kappa Key for scholastic honors and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In 1955, she married Stanley M. White, MD who preceded her in death. A resident of Asheville since 1969, she served as Director of Social Work Services at St. Joseph's Hospital until her retirement in 1985. An active member of Grace Episcopal Church since 1969, she served on the Altar Guild, as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and as their first female Senior Warden. She also served on the boards and planning councils of numerous community organizations including: Mountain Area Hospice, Buncombe County Home Health Agency, Meals on Wheels, League of Women Voters, United Way, Executive Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Western NC, College for Seniors, and Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. She is survived by her sister Carol Petty of Denver, CO; her daughter Julia Ann Poisson and husband David of Wadesboro, NC; 2 grandchildren, Crystal A. Fravel and husband Jared of Wytheville, VA and David S. Poisson of Raleigh, NC, and two great- granddaughters, Tessa and Lia Fravel both of Wytheville, VA. A memorial service will be held on Friday June 6, 2008 at 4:00 pm in St. Giles Chapel at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community, 1617 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC. A reception will follow the memorial service. A special thank you from her family to the staff at Deerfield for their love and attention to Lois Ann this past year. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338 Asheville, NC 28813. An organization she was involved with since its beginnings.
