Lois Wise Frye, 81, of Mills River, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2025.
Lois was born October 18, 1944, in Avery County, North Carolina to the late Frank and Gladys (Dellinger) Wise. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Frank “Buster” Wise and Kenneth Wise.
Lois was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Long Shoals Baptist Church in Arden where she served as a children’s Sunday school teacher for many years. Lois also served on several committees within her church. She was a very hard and dedicated worker, working for many years at Diamond Brand in Fletcher and also at Medical Action in Arden.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas Frye of Mills River; her daughter Karen Treiper and her husband Greg of Arden; grandson Nicholas Trieper (Martine) of Mills River; great-granddaughter Isabella Trieper; sisters Louise Yelton (Alvin) of Spear, NC, and Lou Ann Elliott and Doris Freeman of Spruce Pine.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Long Shoals Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Rearden officiating. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to the service at the church, from 2 to 3 PM. Inurnment will be private.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Lois. Lois always had a friendly hello and a kind greeting. I will miss her. Thomas, I will be staying in touch with you and you and Lois are in my thoughts and prayers.

Immediately, I thought of the years you spend in Bakersville and what you and Lois meant to our community and our church. Our thoughts and prayers will be for God’s comfort for you.
