Louise Crook, 94, of Asheville, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Park Ridge Hospital after a long period of declining health. A native of Henderson County, she lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Ben Lee Cunningham and Susan Etta Morgan Cunningham. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Johnson Crook; one son, William Edward Crook; one great-granddaughter, Stella Grace Carland; four brothers, Homer, Charlie, James and B.L. "June" Cunningham and three sisters, Inez Connor, Edna Justus and Sarah Youngblood. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. JoAnn Crook Carland and her husband, Dr. James W. Carland Jr.; two grandsons, James "Trey" Wesley Carland, III and his wife, Shelby Elizabeth Cutson Carland and Jason Whitney Carland as well as a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The funeral will follow in the Groce Chapel at 3:00 PM and burial will be at Calvary Churchyard. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations be made to the Carland Foundation for Learning, which will establish a scholarship fund in Louise's memory, PO Box 1708, Arden, NC 28704, or through their website, www.carlandfoundation.org.

    The only time I ever ran away from home was to her back door ( I was one) She was very special to me.
