  1. Bree, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Dawn and colleen calhoun(Emory Mitchell’s grandmother and aunt)

    • I was her house keeper for 3 years. She was very special to me. I am going to miss her so much. My thoughts and prayers are with you Bree. Thank you for sharing this wonderful lady with me. Love always Angie Ramsey

  2. Bree, Please know that our prayers are with you at this time. I am Ruth Smith’s neice, who passed away last April. Ruth and Lucille were best friends. Everyone loved Lucille and her special laughter. Always happy. And she loved politics. She will be missed, but know that she was dearly loved. Her niece, Claudette was one of my best friends, as we grew up together. Sending love to all.

  3. Bree I am sorry for your loss
I know you were very close
I remember the times we would meet for lunch. She and mom became very close . Mom died February 17. Please let me know when you have service

  4. I am so sorry for your loss
    I loved her
She would meet mom and I for lunch. The two of you were very close.

  5. My dear sweet Mammaw,
You were an absolutely wonderful grandmother to me my entire life! I know that you are happy and peaceful in Heaven with Mom and the many others that you couldn’t wait to see again. Thanks for all of the love, prayers, and support from family and friends throughout these difficult times!

  6. I was chaplain and volunteer director at the Juvenile Evaluation Center 1996-2011, following the consolidation of the volunteer director’s job with the chaplain. Lucille’s legacy of a well-organized and comprehensive volunteer program was still strongly felt in those years. She frequently returned when we had volunteer recognition events. The boys and girls she helped rarely had the opportunity to know her, but the volunteers she recruited and supervised made a huge difference in those children’s lives!

I was chaplain and volunteer director at the Juvenile Evaluation Center 1996-2011. Her legacy of effectively managing the volunteer program for many years was still strongly felt in my years there. She came back on numerous occasions for volunteer recognition events, even though she had retired in 1990.
God’s Peace to all her family and friends,
    Rev. Robert M. Randolph

  7. Lucille was such a help to the teachers and students at JEC. My class was doing a study unit on Western North Carolina and we decided to make a quilt, with each block designed by one of my students. Lucille got all the fabric and materials we needed. When she retired, I gave her the quilt. If you find that she still had it, I wanted you to know the story. I visited her several times at The Crossings, as I had a close friend living there also. She was a lovely person!!

  8. Lucille was an adopted member of the Cannady family for close to 20 years. She befriended Ellis Cannady to help with caretaking for our mother so she could remain at home. Lucille’s role in our family changed over those years and she and Ellis were besties and I’m sure her presence in his life certainly enriched his days and prolonged his final years. We hold her in fond and loving memories, Lynne Cannady and David Ford

  9. Living at The Crossings, now Harmony at Reynolds Mountain, Lucille and I were on the same floor.
She was always friendly, loved her plants and flowers and made the best of her days after Ellis died.
I will always remember her fondly. May she rest in peace.
    Lisette de Groot

  10. Bree,
Your grandmother’s office was next to mine at JEC. We had lunch together, went to many functions together, laughed together, and (sometimes griped together).

She was especially proud of you.
She made a difference in the lives of the youth we served.

    Blessings and condolences to you.

    Debby Burchfield

  11. Lucille and I have been friends for 65 years. We met in Anchorage, Alaska in the 1950s and we both moved back to Asheville and remained friends. She was a very dear friend and I will cherish our many memories. She was always there if I needed anything. I am going to miss her very much!
