Marcena Joann Ball Faulkner, 85, of Asheville, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023.

Mrs. Faulkner was born October 8, 1937 in Mars Hill, NC. She was a daughter of the late William Tecumseh Ball and Verlie Mace Ball. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Faulkner, and by a brother, Dave Ball.

Surviving is her son, Clinton Faulkner (Kim); grandson, Derrick Faulkner (Kim); great-granddaughter, Emily; sisters, Irene Black (Fred) and Gertie Hoffner; and brothers, Dean Ball (Susan), Jerry Ball (Pat) and Bill Ball (Elaine).

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, at Green Hills Cemetery.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.

  3. Joann was one of my favorite people. I will always remember her sweet personality. I enjoyed the times that we got to spend together at my house or hers getting together for holidays, or birthdays. She will be remembered by me always. I loved her meatloaf and chocolate pie! Rest in peace with our Lord. You are home with Bill, and the ones that went home before you. Love to Kim, Clint, Derrick, and sweet baby Emily. Joann ‘s memory will live in thru you all. Joann was a blessing in my life.

  4. Aunt Joann was always kind to me. I stayed with her a lot when I was little and she was so sweet to me. I looked forward to going over to her house to visit with her. Prayers for Clint and his family.

  5. Knew all the Ball Family as I was growing up. Such a wonderful family that, decades later, JoAnn (Marcena) and all the family are still among my fondest memories. My sympathy to her family and friends for she will be greatly missed.

  8. So sorry to hear of Marcenas passing. She was moms cousin, Phoebe Lou Reese Ramsey. She was always so sweet and fun to be around. I remember her laughter and smile. Prayers and peace
