Gladys “Marie” Gilliam Nesbitt, 96, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Laurels of Hendersonville.
Mrs. Nesbitt was born in McDowell County to the late Ed and Hettie Painter Gilliam. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Cornelius Nesbitt; two sisters, Faye Connor and Mattie G. Lavendar and five brothers, Paul, Jim, James, Billie and Daniel Gilliam.
Marie retired from GE with over 20 years of service as an assembler. She had also worked on the family farm and was an excellent homemaker. In her spare time, Marie loved gardening and working with flowers. She was a former member of Barker Heights Baptist Church in Hendersonville.
Survivors include one son, Gary James Nesbitt and his wife, Gail of Flat Rock; two grandchildren, Amy Tolentino and her husband Ian and Erin Vest; two great grandchildren, Della Tolentino and Bailey Vest; one sister, Opal Walker and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family of Mrs. Nesbitt will receive friends on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road in Arden.
A private burial will take place later in the week at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
