Marie Payne Baker, 81, of 2149 Smoky Park Highway, Candler, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at her home. Mrs. Baker was born in Haywood County and was a daughter of the late Kelly and Mary Mull Payne. She was also preceded in death by her husband Howard Baker who died in 1984, sisters Louise Payne and Femmie Burnette and brothers Francis, Lattie, Walter and Junior. She was retired from BASF and attended Hominy Baptist Church. Surviving are a sister Bonnie Payne of Candler; a brother Sherman Payne of Canton; two sisters-in-law Beverly and Christine Payne, a brother-in-law Jack Baker and his wife Christine, and special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
