Marie Warren Ross, 87, died peacefully at The Brian Center on Friday, March 27, 2020.

A Buncombe Co. native, Marie was a daughter of the late William and Artie Hall Warren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Lane Ross, and son, Michael Ross.

Marie graduated from Valley Springs High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. She later retired from the Buncombe Co. school system after working for many years as a teacher’s assistant. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and outdoor activities, particularly going to the beach. Marie especially loved listening to music and singing. She was a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ross is survived by her three daughters, Debra Collazo and husband Carlos, Diane Rumbough and husband Tom, Denise Hartwell and husband Ronnie; a son, Jerry Ross and wife Vicki; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Ross; sister, Ellen Brown; brother, Roy Warren; grandchildren, Heather Kolumechuk, Jeremy Rumbough, Wesley Rumbough, Aaron Collazo, Madison Ross, Grayson Ross, and Colson Ross; and six great-grandchildren. Marie loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. She will be missed by all of her family and friends.

A private graveside service for the family will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler.

Her family wishes to express their thanks to the Brian Center and to CarePartners PACE for the compassion and care they showed to Marie.

  3. I only knew Mrs. Ross through her children who loved her so much. My condolences to the family, and the peace of Christ through the coming days.

  4. We are so sorry to hear of Marie’s passing. Alzheimer’s is a horrible disease (my father had it before he passed). Please know that we are praying for you all and, even though we haven’t seen each other in many years, we love you and will pray for all of you during this heartbreaking time. Just know that the Lord will hold you and comfort you.

  11. Diane and all. I remember so fondly many Sunday afternoons hanging at your house after church. Your mom was always busy but always welcomed me and was always kind to me. I know she will be missed. Earth’s loss is heaven’s gain. May she be enveloped by God’s angels and be completely whole.
