Marion Albert Ballew, Jr., 71, went home to be with the Lord on April 17, 2015.
Born in Yancey County to the late Marion, Sr. and Ola Mae Robinson Ballew, he worked for the US Postal Service and served in the US Army. He loved reading, nature, wilderness, art, music, playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his family.
A loving husband, father and brother, he is survived by his wife, two daughters, five grandchildren and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 23, at 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road, with visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 300, Boone, NC, 28607.

To the family of Mr. Marion Ballew, Jr. please accept my sincere
condolence. We all face the loss of a
dear loved one. At times like this I like to turn to the bible for
comfort. The scripture at 2 Cor. 1:2,3
calls Jehovah the God of all comfort.
May his love surround you at this time.
I look forward to the fulfillment of John 5:28, 29 which tells us that a
time is coming when those we have lost will hear Jesus’ voice and come back to
life. Also, Rev. 21:3, 4 when death will
be no more. It is my wish that these
scriptures provide you with comfort. For
