Marjorie Dotson Brown, age 88, of 19 Deanwood Circle, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in a local hospital.

She was a native of Buncombe County, and was the daughter of the late Glover Dotson and Mollie Trantham Dotson and wife of the late Fletcher M. Brown, who died in 1973.

She is survived by two sons, Rev. Gayle Brown and his wife Stella, and Rev. Ron Brown and his wife Louise, all of Asheville, and a special friend, Lawrence Rhodes of Asheville. She is also survived by two grandsons, Rev. Morris Brown and his wife Pam of Greensboro, Chris Brown, a student in the School of Pharmacy, UNC-Chapel Hill, two granddaughters, Christy Brown, a student in the School of Business, UNC-Charlotte, Michele Grush and her husband Mark of Asheville, and four great-grandchildren, Zachary Brown, Caleb Brown, Aury St. Germain and Charlotte Grush.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church for 56 years and was a member of the church choir for 40 years. She was also a member of the Asheville Police Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, with the Rev. James I. Walker, Rev. Harold Savell, Rev. Dr. Ian Walker, and Rev. Carl Setterlind officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Churchyard in Fletcher.

Pallbearers will be Rev. Morris Brown, Chris Brown, Mark Grush, Chris Notaro, Roy Cole and Larry Colemon. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fidelis Rogers Sunday School Class and the Ministers of the Buncombe Baptist Association.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road. At other times, the family will be at the home of Gayle Brown, 28 Deanwood Circle.

Memorials may be made to the Biltmore Baptist Church Building Fund, 35 Clayton Road, Arden, NC 28704.

  1. My deepest condolences to the entire family. I didn’t know Aunt Marjorie very well, but she seemed to be a very fine person. I’m know that she will be greatly missed.
