Marjorie Gunnin O’Kelley, 83, of 158 Brucemont Circle, Asheville, died Saturday, 5:00 PM June 1, 2002, at her home, with her family at her side. Mrs. O’Kelley was born in Dublin, GA, and was a daughter of the late Christopher Columbus and Pauline Carroll Gunnin. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. O’Kelley Sr., who died in 1997. She was a 1935 graduate and class valedictorian of Gastonia High School. She attended Blanton’s Business College and retired as Executive Director of the Buncombe County Chapter of the American Cancer Society where she worked from 1963 to 1982. She was a fifty-year member of Central United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Paula O. Labian and her husband Bill of Jacksonville, FL; three sons, James T. O’Kelley, Jr. and his wife Jan of Vienna, VA, Ronald L. O’Kelley and his wife Lesley of Boston, MA, and Charles F. O’Kelley and his wife Ralphael of Tampa, FL; eight grandchildren, Tara Friedman and her husband Stephen, Penny O’Kelley, Colleen O’Kelley, Gillian O’Kelley, James O’Kelley III, Joanna O’Kelley, Chris Labian and Sean Labian; two nieces, Elizabeth S. Hintz of Asheville and Carol M. Quigg of Fayetteville; five nephews, Clifton E. Siler of Asheville, Jim Gunnin of Rockport, TX, John Gunnin of Columbus, OH, Bob Moser of Washington, DC, and Bob Morecock of Virginia Beach, VA; and one great-niece, Beth Stahl of Asheville. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carol Ploch and the Rev. Don Inlay officiating. Graveside services will precede at 10:00 am at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the church Monday immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 27 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801 or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
