Marjory Gene (Morris) Denison, 81, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Universal Healthcare in Fletcher.
Mrs. Denison was born December 23, 1940 in Rochester, NY to the late Marjory (Morris) Morris and Leon Morris. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jill, and brother, Jon.
So there would not be a lot of confusion on which Marjory was being talked about, the younger Marjory was called Gene after her grandfather, Eugene. The family moved to PA when Gene was still a baby and when she was 8, they moved back to NY State to live with and take care of her grandparents in their home in Lakemont. She attended and graduated from Dundee Central School, Dundee, NY, in 1958. Upon graduation, Gene moved to Rochester to attend business school for a year. Following the completion of her secretarial training, she took a job with Kodak.
Gene retired from Kodak in 1992 and following a recent divorce, purchased a new home in Greece, a Rochester suburb. She did most of the landscaping of her new home as she loved working in the gardens and bushes. Among those bushes were some prized peonies which she moved from her parent’s home in Lakemont. Within days of her retirement from Kodak, she went to work for Spectrum Office Supplies in their HR department. Spectrum was eventually purchased by Staples Business Advantage and Gene worked there until her full retirement in 2005.
A few years earlier, Gene reconnected with a high school sweetheart and they were married on June 2, 2001. They moved to a larger house, taking some of the peony bushes with them, where they remained for 18 years before relocating to Fletcher, NC in August 2019. Naturally, a couple of her grandmothers peony bushes moved with them. Gene’s health started to deteriorate following her breaking her hip in 2013. She was in the hospital several times and starting in 2021, her health was getting worse. She was in the hospital several times in 2022 followed by rehab for several weeks. In April 2022, following a hospital stay, Gene spent several weeks in rehab and then on June 3 was moved to a nursing home where she passed away on July 24, 2022.
Gene is survived by her husband, Stuart, two daughters, Barbara (Bob) Shoemaker, Red Hook, NY and Kathy Cole, Spencerport, NY and two step-sons, Dr. Douglas (Leah) Denison, Decatur, GA, and Daryl (Jenn) Denison, Asheville, NC; her sister, Judy (Kenny) Staples, West Palm Beach, FL, and her brother, Bob (Wendy) Morris, Carolina Shores, NC; nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren as well as six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A private service will be announced at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made in Gene’s memory to one’s favorite organization that supports children or pets.

Genie, my dear friend, I will miss you so. I’ll miss my phone calls to you since you and Stuart moved South. I will always remember the fun times we shared on our Fab Five travels around the country. Rest In Peace.
So sorry to learn of Gene’s passing. We got to her and Stuart at the Church of the Ascension in Rochester. They were a wonderful couple and such an asset to our church family. Really feel sad for Stuart now that Gene is no longer in his life.
