Fletcher ~ Mark Alan Sawyer, 49, of Amble Lane, Fletcher died on Monday, February 14, 2005. A native of Greensboro, Mr. Sawyer had lived in Henderson County for the past three years. He was the son of the late William Alan Sawyer, who died in 1982 and is survived by his mother, Joan Cline Glisson of Fletcher. Mark was a US Navy veteran; he served on submarines, including the USS James Madison. He was an avid aviator having worked in Aviation museums. He also was a great outdoorsman who was especially fond of falconry. He was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and was active in the church singles ministry. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters, Kelly Carreign Sawyer of Hattiesburg, MS; twin daughters, Kate Shanan and Erin Elizabeth of Oshkosh, WI; one sister, Grace Camille Condon, and her husband, Gregg of Hendersonville. A funeral service will be held 7:00 P.M. Friday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with the Rev. Sam McLamb and Rev. Ed Hillman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 9:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held Monday, February 21 at 2:00 P.M. at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery in Oak Ridge, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Biltmore Baptist Church Singles Benevolence Fund, 35 Clayton Road, Arden, NC 28704.

  5. I am so sorry for your loss. Mark and I were in Phlebotomy classes at AB Tech in 2004. He was a pleasure to be around and I am sure he will be greatly missed.
