Martha Carland Roche

Mrs. Roche was a native of Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late John David and Nora Plemmons Carland. She was a graduate of Emma High School and worked at Aston Park Hospital for a number of years as a insurance clerk and later at Hayes & Hopson as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Emma United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of Fleet Reserve, and the Moose Lodge.

She is survived by her husband, Edward C. Roche; one daughter, Diane Rector of Asheville; one sister, Maxine Crompton of Asheville; one brother, Max Carland of Candler; three grandchildren, Shannah Lee Jennings and Martha Seay of Asheville and Delbert Brooks of Mississippi; and three great-grandchildren, Avery Rector and Kirstie Lee Collins of Asheville and James Austin Brooks of Mississippi.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 14, 1996, in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. John C. Warren officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Monday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802.
