Martin L. Conner

Martin L. Conner, 77, of Asheville, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Born in Henderson County to the late Millard G. and Daisy M. Searcy, Mr. Conner was a retired machinist with Precision Performance and owned and operated Conner Nursery. His talent for growing trees, shrubs and flowers will be remembered by many. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Conner is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jane Cassida Conner; 3 daughters, Theresa Conner-Howard and her husband, Charles L. "Chuck", Tammy Phillips and her husband, J.C., and Teresa Williams, all of Asheville; 7 grandchildren, Candice and Tabitha Williams, Alesha and Shanna Phillips, Chuck Howard, Jr., SFC Steven Howard, and Joshua Howard; 5 great grandchildren, Christian Nesby, Carl, Whitney, Gabriel, and Gracie Howard. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 pm in the Groce Funeral Home Chapel, Tunnel Road, with the Rev. Claude Kayler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Gashes Creek Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one's choice. Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road is assisting the Conner family.
