On Monday, October 12, 2009, Mary Anne McCarley passed away peacefully in her home in Asheville. Mrs. McCarley was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John Nathan McCarley, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria McCarley Stockton, (James), Ponte Vedra Beach Florida; sons, John Nathan McCarley, III, (Marcia), Cashiers, NC and Bruce Winfield McCarley, Atlanta GA; four grandchildren living in Texas, Canada and North Carolina, and two great-granddaughters.
During her lifetime, Mrs. McCarley contributed greatly to the art community in the Southeast and was a founding member of the Asheville Fine Arts League. Throughout the Carolinas, Mrs. McCarley's art has been collected by many enthusiasts. Her portraits and low country landscapes are among her finest work. The cover of The North Carolina State magazine featured Mrs. McCarley's art several times. Additionally, Mrs. McCarley was a member of the Asheville Junior League. As a member of All Souls Cathedral she designed and organized the creation of the church kneelers. Mr. and Mrs. McCarley gave the Cathedral Bells to All Souls Cathedral.
The quality of Mrs. McCarley's later years of life was greatly enhanced due to the devoted efforts of her caregivers who have served the McCarleys with love and devotion for several years. The family wishes to express great appreciation to our dear friends: Javan Johnson, Margaret Henderson, Teresa Eavenson, Nestoria Lewis, Dot Sharpe, Vicky Warren, Debbie Williams, Georgette Lord, Mary Fairchild, Donna McCuen, Emma Harris, Jacqueline Collington, Crystal Smith, Amanda Mace, Cleta Sherrill, Heather Green, Alexis Simuel, Tara Williams, Natalie Wood, Paul Grover, Elizabeth Cowlery, Judy Bridges, Evelyn Huggins and CarePartners-Hospice, Crislyn Baugham, Connie Clark, Andrea Lahti, Lauren Patrick Dimaio and Brenda Lewis.
A memorial service for Mr. and Mrs. McCarley will be held in the churchyard of Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC on Sunday, October 18, at 2:00 p.m. CarePartners Hospice Chaplain Brenda Lewis will officiate and music will be provided by the Senior Choir of the Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

So many great memories of both Mr. and Mrs. McCarley. So hard to see them go. Miss being over at the house with my father. Thank you for all the wonderfull times!
