Mary Ellen Champlin, 55, of Swannanoa, died Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Mission Hospital.

A native of Long Island, NY, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Frances Muccio Champlin. She was also preceded in death by a great-nephew, Cody Austin Harvey-Worley.

Mary worked at Mission Health System and previously at the Black Mountain Neuro Medical Treatment Center. Mary was a member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence where she served as Treasurer of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 412.

She is survived by a sister, June Champlin Harvey of Fletcher; aunt, Elaine Messina (Joseph) of Boynton Beach, FL; two nieces, Rebecca Guthrie (James) and Jennifer Champion (Shaun) as well as two nephews, Logan Champion and Wade Champion, all of Fletcher.

Mary’s family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Basilica of St. Lawrence with the Very Reverend Father Roger Arnsparger officiating.

  3. I am in shock that you are gone, I regret we hadn’t got to have that lunch we spoke of. We had some great times, made some amazing memories, and shares a lot of laughs. I pray you are at peace and surrounded by your family. My mom speaks fondly if you visiting her when she was in the hospital. You always had smile and kind word to share. Rest in Heavenly peace .
